Practical Support for Someone Who Has Been Widowed
Since the earliest days of Soaring Spirits programming, family members and friends of widowed people have reached out with the same question: How can I best support someone I care about?
Much of the guidance available focuses on what not to say or do. While avoiding unintentional harm is important, actionable suggestions for how to help are equally meaningful. People want to show up with care, but they’re often unsure what that looks like in practice.
That’s where our How to Be a Rock campaign comes in.
When a partner dies, a widowed person’s whole world is upended. The routines, responsibilities, and relationships that once felt steady can suddenly feel uncertain. In those moments, the people around them can become a firm foundation. The idea of “being a rock” offers a helpful metaphor for showing up as a steady, supportive presence when everything else feels topsy-turvy.
The How to Be a Rock campaign is a simple email series that delivers practical suggestions for support directly to your inbox each month. Each message offers thoughtful, easy-to-implement ideas designed specifically for the widowed experience. It’s practical, accessible, and grounded in what widowed people have shared they find most helpful.
We also recognize that those supporting a widowed person are often grieving too. Watching someone you love in deep pain, and knowing you cannot fix it, can feel heavy and disorienting. This campaign offers care not only for the person you are supporting, but for you as well, acknowledging the emotional weight of walking alongside someone you love through this life-altering experience.
This free program simply requires signing up to begin receiving guidance and support from the Soaring Spirits community.
A helpful first step can be purchasing one of our Newly Widowed Packets for your widowed person. When you do, you’ll automatically be enrolled in the How to Be a Rock series. You can also sign up directly using the form below.
