Why We Exist
Widowhood changes everything.
It reshapes identity, disrupts daily life, and asks people to rebuild in ways they never expected. And while it is deeply personal, it is never experienced in isolation. The impact of widowhood reaches into families, workplaces, and communities.
Soaring Spirits exists to ensure that no one has to navigate that experience alone.
Our Mission
Soaring Spirits connects widowed people with each other to build resilience in grief through an ongoing peer support community and research-based programming.
We believe in the power of connection, of being in the presence of others who understand, without explanation. Through thoughtfully designed programs and accessible pathways to support, we create spaces where widowed people can share, learn, and begin to rebuild their lives with intention.
Our work is grounded in lived experience and informed by research, ensuring that what we offer reflects the real needs of the community we serve.
How We Do This
We connect widowed people through:
- Peer Support Communities
Spaces where widowed people can gather, share, and connect with others who understand their experience. - Research-Based Programming
Programs shaped by data, informed by the Widowed Resilience Scale, and grounded in the lived experiences of tens of thousands of widowed people. - Accessible, Ongoing Support
Opportunities to engage at any stage of widowhood—whether newly widowed or years into rebuilding life.
This is not a one-time intervention. It is an ongoing community that evolves alongside the people it serves.
Our Vision
Widowhood has been reframed as a collective, collaborative process through which people grieve, connect, and thrive.
We envision a world where:
- Widowed people everywhere have access to life-affirming communities
- Support is informed, compassionate, and widely available
- Widowhood is understood not as an isolating experience, but as one that is supported by community
- People are equipped not only to survive, but to rebuild lives of meaning and purpose
A Shift in Understanding
For too long, widowhood has been approached as something to endure quietly and alone.
We are working to change that.
By expanding access to peer support, advancing grief literacy, and grounding our work in research, we are helping to reframe widowhood as a shared human experience—one that deserves understanding, connection, and care.
What This Means for Widowed People
It means you don’t have to figure this out on your own.
It means there are people who understand.
It means support is available, when and how you are ready.
What This Means for Our Community
Together, we are building something that reaches far beyond any one program or moment.
We are creating a community where connection is possible, resilience is supported, and people are given space to rebuild their lives in their own way and in their own time.
